After Qua I wrote a poem in my journal that began with the line, "I have often felt the lonely Chritian…" My journey into yoga and a deeper spirituality has been such a joyous ride there have also been times when my Christian faith has felt unwelcome amongst the amazing people I'd meet at yoga classes and meditations. And for good reason: I know that Christianity (perhaps more than anything else in the world) has wounded and scarred many people for centuries. And yet, I feel its goodness in the core of my being and i have carried Christianity with me on my journey, both of us transforming as we seek the true center and source and seek to get rid of all the institutional, power -hungry, political junk that has been added to the faith of Jesus.
So, when I tried Qua Yoga with Laurie it was like my two spiritual worlds, which often seemed at odds with each other, joined together in a beautiful union. At first I didn't know the base for her prayer were the words of Jesus, or at least i didn't know it consciously - just felt like coming home: every movement , every word, the rhythm and the music of the phrases together with the flow of the gently poses felt like it was made for me - that it was nurturing my whole self, physically, emotional, spiritually.
There is something extremey powerful about combining the gentle flow of yoga poses with Laurie's repeated prayer. The words in Aramaic are strong and compelling and moving. And the effortless explanation and interpretation of those words make them even more powerful. My mind was quieted and opened by Qua Yoga in a way that I have never before experienced: deep, transforming, meditation prayer joined with powerfully strengthening and centering yoga.
I left Laurie's Qua Yoga feeling more fully alive than ever before in my life: she had incredibly brought my heart's deepest knowings into alignment with my body's movement creating in me a wholly understood and embodied identity that I'd never known before.
What a gift Laurie is. Her Qua Yoga is a marvelous and unique bridge to inner knowing and centered fullness: never before have I felt myself so aligned, centered, grounded and in harmony.
I can't thank you enough, Laurie. Please come back next year for our retreat and PLEASE let us know if/when you'll be doing Qua on Whidbey or Seattle or anywhere I can get myself to!
